1.
when I was crowned sorrow king I spent my days burrowing but now I’m full of hope like the first day of spring she won’t come back that’s for sure but the tears I once cried for her they lost their sting on the first day of spring oh the tears I cry are tears of joy i’m not that same downcast boy with his heart in a sling on the first day of spring it’s the worst day of spring it’s the first day of spring
2.
some days I won’t be crushed until sunrise some days I won’t be crushed until noon but somehow I always end up getting trampled by the elephant in the room poor weeping willow torn out by the roots I’m making no excuse but how can I relax knowing you’re out there off in the meadow vicious violent brute tortured by the truth how can I relax knowing you’re out there some days ill fight him off with a shotgun some days I’ll fight him off with a broom but mostly I just avoid making eye contact with the elephant in the room he’s in my head he’s stomping on the bed he’s wishing I was dead he’s in my head how can I relax knowing you’re out there
3.
are you here with me the one who holds the key I need your help I need your help I belong to the rhythm of some other world how can I get through the one who owns the room and breathe your air and breathe your air I belong to the rhythm of some other world I’m going back to the place where I belong I miss your voice and the joy of your song
4.
once in a while you come to a place out in the country and separate you reach in the old man and pull out the child who wants to be set free and live in the wild once in a while and after you’re gone and over the hill you come to a crossroads where time stands still a permanent rainbow covers the dawn it’s such a sweet scene to look upon after you’re gone

about

L.A.-based band Creature of Doom performs a sort of musical alchemy, lending new emotional texture to our most self-sabotaging impulses. Made up of bassist/singer David Baldwin and keyboardist/singer Jacquelyn Sky, COD bridges the electronic and heavy rock worlds, injecting soulful melodies into dark, synth-driven sounds.

“The idea for Creature of Doom is all about not being able to get out of your own way,” says Baldwin. “It’s about being able to laugh at that and celebrate it, instead of just wallowing in it.”

Originally formed as a solo project in 2020, Baldwin recorded and produced the debut EP Tears of Joy on his own, mining inspiration from artists as eclectic as The Stooges and Frank Sinatra. Mixed by producer/engineer Ali Chant (Perfume Genius, PJ Harvey, Aldous Harding), the result is a strangely exhilarating and endlessly unpredictable form of alt-pop, imbued with equal parts dramatic grandeur and raw emotional honesty.
